Forsayth is located in the central base of Cape York and is a part of the Savannah Way. Surrounded by mountainous terrain, consisting of granite and mineralised sedimentary rocks, this is pioneering country. Forsayth has a small permanent population of around 75 residents. At its heart are the Goldfields Hotel and Finnigan’s Rest, both of which are open throughout the year. The Goldfields Hotel is a meeting place for locals and visitors alike. It’s open 7 days a week and has an onsite bar, café and restaurant, as well as convenience store, post office, fuel supplies and world class agate display.
Finnigan’s Rest provides comfortable Forsayth accommodation for those wanting modern motel rooms or powered sites. The property is adjacent to the Goldfield’s Hotel and has over 30 air conditioned rooms, each with private en suite. The powered sites have large established trees for shade and come in a range of sizes, suitable for all rigs – from caravans and motorhomes, to camper trailers, tents and swags.
Forsayth is 40km south of Georgetown and 70km west of Einasleigh, to get here you can self-drive or book a ticket on the famous Savannahlander train.
