Charleston Dam is a lovely stop for watersports and recreational activities. Located just 5km from Forsayth, the Charleston Dam is on the Delaney River and was developed to provide a reliable town water supply, as well as to create recreational opportunities for locals and visitors. It officially opened in 2022 and is already an established destination for a large array of birds, including pelicans, parrots, cormorants, kites, eagles, ducks, finches and more. The best time to see the local birdlife is early mornings and late afternoons.
Charleston Dam is also a great place for fishing, with lots of native fish thriving in these waters, including large Sooty and yabbies. Please remember to be sustainable in your activities, to ensure there’s plenty left to maintain the population and habitat. Catch and release is recommended for fish and take only what you need for yabbies. Other activities you can enjoy on Charleston Dam include boating, kayaking, swimming and SUP.
The road to Charleston Dam from Forsayth is sealed, and there is a boat ramp for convenient water access. Public facilities include two large, shaded picnic areas with table and chair seating and electric BBQs, as well as a toilet block and bins, which are all connected by sealed pathways with landscaping.
