Getting to Forsayth

Getting here is easy!

By Road

Regardless of what route is taken, most conventional vehicles will handle the journey to Forsayth with ease, including those towing caravans. (Road conditions are subject to change so please ensure you check with the Etheridge Shire Council for up-to-date road conditions.)

Travel by sealed road from Cairns, west along the Kennedy Highway through the picturesque Atherton Tableland to Mount Garnet. From here, the famous Savannah Way continues via the Gulf Developmental Road to Mt Surprise and then onto Georgetown. From Georgetown, head south to Forsayth. Of the 42 kilometres of road between Georgetown and Forsayth there are only 14 kilometres unsealed. It is a short 43kms drive from Forsayth to the front gates of Cobbold Gorge Village or jump on the transfers to Cobbold departing Forsayth on Thursdays.

There is an alternate route! If you take the ‘shortcut’ road, which leaves the highway between Mt Surprise and Georgetown, this will bring you to Forsayth via Einasleigh.

If you’re coming via Hughenden follow the Hann Highway to the Lynd Junction/Oasis Roadhouse.  From The Lynd to Forsayth via Einasleigh is approx 185km of which 145km is gravel.

From Charters Towers, take the Gregory Developmental Road to the Lynd Junction.

By Rail

The Savannahlander invites you to experience one of the great rail experiences in Australia. This unique outback rail experience departs Cairns weekly, winding it way through the wet tropics area of the Kuranda range and out through the Savannah country to Forsayth and back on a 4 day tour. Highly personalised, you will experience the tour alongside our drivers in our 1960’s classic “silver-bullet” railmotors. With options for short tours and visits to Cobbold Gorge and Undara, this is a must-do experience. A relaxed pace, great company and travelling in style through country you will never forget.
